BuggedCast Episode 5 - “Blogger, Behold Thy Podcaster”

This was the first time I set foot into a mobile podcasting studio, though thinking about it I never really knew that you could port a recording studio by just adding water. Worth P200,000, it is supposed to be your friendly portable podcasting box for recording anywhere, anytime.

I have several guests for this podcast, and we all fit inside the 4 x 4 box. One of my guests was Pocholo Gonzales of Creativoices and we talked about the voice acting industry, dubbing TV shows, the life of a voice actor and of course, podcasting.

BuggedCast Episode 4 - “Bring in the Geeks”

I’ve known JC Media and Gabe Mercado for quite some time. When I found out that they started Geek Chorus, I decided to meet up with them and do a podcast inside my mobile podcasting studio, inside my car.

BuggedCast Episode 3 - “Anyone Can Start Their Own Religion”

Gang Badoy is one of the most interesting people I’ve come to know. She is the founder of RockEd Philippines and hosts the Rocked Radio show on NU 107 every Sunday at 8:00PM.

In this episode of the BuggedCast, Gang gives an impromptu lecture at the Shell Gas Station along Meralco Avenue - on how to guard ourselves from media and become discerning critiques with what we see on TV and hear on radio.

BuggedCast Episode 1 - “Lagalag”

I was able to finally talk to Wil Pascual, the creator of the Lagalag Project, which is an experiment of sorts that features Filipinos around the world and two traveling moleskines. We enjoyed a good 20 minutes talking about photography, moleskines and blogs.

This podcast was recorded using Gizmo and edited using GarageBand on a Macintosh. I need to make an erratum. Gizmo does not save files in MP3 format. It saves them onto WAV first which allows you more options in terms of manipulating the audio file.

Wil and I were speaking in both English and Filipino. Would like to apologize for those who cannot understand some parts.

Show notes:

How I Do The Shows

Lately, I’ve found out that recording from the inside of your car can produce good results as it simulates a studio. The disadvantage to this is of course - the heat. I record inside a gray 1989 Toyota Corolla and try to park somewhere where there’s a wireless hotspot for maximum effect.

I make use of a black 2.0GHz MacBook to record the show. I’m running GarageBand and make use of the bundled loop music for ambient effect. The mic I use alternates from the built in omni-directional microphone that is built into the MacBook and a C01U Samson microphone which I borrow from time to time. I use the former more, due to space constraints - which to my surprise produces fantastic results given what it is.

With online conversations, I record the show using Gizmo Project, a good alternative to Skype. I’m definitely not professional broadcaster.

I have almost zero experience when it comes to broadcast media but I’ve always been interested in talking to people and learning more from them. This is how I started the show.

We’re On Air!

The BuggedCast is the informal online radio show that serves as an extension of my personal blog. Though it would have been fine to keep my content in one place, I decided to move the show to its own dedicated site. There are a number of reasons but mostly because A Bugged Life talks mostly about my endeavors as a geek stuck in between traditional and new media in the Philippines.

The BuggedCast, though also it delves on the topics of technology, covers a broader range of topics. The BuggedCast is basically my drive-by talk show with people who influence and shape Filipino society in some way whether it be through their personal advocacies or their professional careers.

I couldn’t really think of a tagline for the show … The BuggedCast: The Show About Two or More People Talking doesn’t really ring a bell. Gee. I guess one day I’ll be inspired to come up with one with one of the guests on the show.
